Bokuruwa was founded in the first half of the 17th Century, being one of the oldest of Kwahu nucleus towns. The migrants principally came from old Denkyira and Ashanti led by Nana Baadu Koampata.

Rev Ramseyer, a Christian missionary made contact with Bokuruwa on his march from Anum to Kumasi. The

missionary was so impressed by the hospitality shown to him in Bokuruwa that he promised to repay the kindness if ever he had the opportunity.
